If you learning personal development for any time then you should hear or use affirmations at some point. Repeating the same words over and over again, or even writing them down.
I know that I have, but if you haven’t what are affirmations and how do you make them work for you?I know that there are a countless amount of books around with a list of affirmations in them for all sorts of things, and some of them might work, but how do you make them work? You have to believe in the affirmation. You need to have something that you can 100% convince yourself that this is what you want to do.
For example to use an affirmation in quitting smoking or some other type of habit, and all you do is tell yourself “I do not want to smoke anymore” Do you honestly think that this is going to make you give up?
Unless you really want to give up something, just saying it a few times isn’t going to work, unless of course, you have leverage on yourself, and you are going to get something out of it!
So to make an affirmation work, you need to tell yourself something that you are going to believe in, and you need to give yourself a reason for wanting the change. Think of what you are going to get out of it, or what you will get if you don’t stop it. Think of health problems (smoking) and how much your life can change if you give it up.
You want more than just to stop smoking, you want a healthy life, you want to be able to spend quality time with your children your grandchildren. You don’t want to be another statistic.
So when you are looking at affirmations, give yourself the ultimate reason for what you want to change. Not just “I do not want …” as there is something deep inside you thinking I want this, and I don’t care what you say. Or you may just think to yourself I want another smoke.
Do some research on them, find ones that you can believe in, think of the consequences of not changing, of what your life will be if you don’t give up. Hey, I know people that smoke and they want to give up, but they enjoy smoking! They like the social aspect, and they know what this is doing to their health!
You need to believe in yourself you need to want to change you need to look at the consequences and also the things that you will get out of it need to be a lot better than doing what you don’t want.
